Owners tend to compare quotes on purchase price and then budget a flat annual figure for service. Over twenty years that flat figure, plus the parts it hides, usually exceeds the original purchase.
Three decisions that move the number
- Drive type. A gearless PM machine costs more up front and pays it back in electricity and oil changes you never make.
- Door design. Doors do the most cycles and cause the most callouts — a better door package is the highest-return upgrade available.
- Standby behaviour. Cabin lighting and ventilation left running all night can quietly match the travel energy of a lightly used lift.
Where the callouts come from
In our own service data, door-related faults account for the clear majority of unplanned visits. Control faults are a distant second, and drive failures are rare on well-maintained equipment.
Specify the doors properly and you have bought down most of your future callout bill before the lift is even installed.
